A navigation course in the Cairngorms National Park using paths, tracks and other linear features. Basic map reading, interpretation and map and compass work is included.  Map reading skills include symbols, grid references, and scales.   Compass skills cover the basics to allow you to get out there and gain more navigation experience.

Silver Assessment

Learn How to Map Read, NNAS Navigation Courses, and Winter Mountain Skills Courses

WalkDeeside is a National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) approved supplier of navigation courses in Aberdeenshire, Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms at Bronze, Silver and Gold (Training only) levels.  These courses are validated to a national standard by NNAS and offer an excellent opportunity for personal development, enhanced enjoyment of the countryside and improved technical ability in a variety of conditions.


For beginners, we also offer a one-day map and compass skills course, available to groups, which will give enhanced confidence at low-level walking or mountain biking.  We have also tailored a Winter Mountain Skills course for more experienced walkers wishing to improve their ability and confidence in the winter months.
